Tottenham Look To Beat United With £40m Offer For Dutch Defender

Tottenham are keen to beat both Manchester United and Chelsea to the signing of Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake, according to reports in the UK.

All three teams are said to be keeping tabs on the Dutchman but Spurs are the club likeliest to firm up their interest with a £40m bid.

United are looking at bringing a new centre-back this summer, with Ake apparently an option, but Tottenham’s move for the 24-year-old could open up another possibility for the Red Devils.

The Manchester club are believed to be interested in Toby Alderweireld, with the Belgian international available for just £25m due to a release clause in his contract.

If Ake makes the switch to Tottenham, the future of Alderweireld will be placed into further doubt. Whether United now see the defender as a priority signing as they have done in the past, it remains to be seen.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be eyeing a move for Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, along with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool.
