Herrera Makes De Gea Promise

Herrera Makes De Gea Promise

David De Gea has been one of Manchester United’s star performers over the years. Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement especially, the Spaniard has thrived every season and been the bright spark of an otherwise disappointing period.

However, the downside to De Gea’s brilliance means a constant link to further pastures – Real Madrid. For the past three summers there have been strong rumours linking him with a move back to Spain, but after the goalkeeper signed a new deal in the summer of 2015 after a transfer to Madrid broke down, it seemed unlikely that he would be going back to his homeland anytime soon.

This summer though, like many in the past, has seen more and more stories developing about a potential transfer to Real. It is reported that Real Madrid want De Gea in a £60m deal, but United are of course reluctant to sell. Ultimately though, it could be down to the player himself if he was to force a move. Should De Gea hand in a transfer request, it would be extremely difficult for them to stop Los Blancos swooping in for their star man.

Fellow countryman Ander Herrera has given some hope to fans though, vowing to do whatever he possibly can to persuade De Gea from leaving the club. Herrera is a close friend of De Gea’s and has persistently talked highly of his team-mate, there is little wonder that the United midfielder does not want to see the back of perhaps the best goalkeeper in the world.

This week during Manchester United’s pre-season tour, Herrera gave a quick bit of assurance that he is doing his best to keep Dave at Old Trafford.

“He’s happy and I know this is going to sound repetitive because I always say the same but David is one of the few keepers who wins you points.” said Herrera.

“I’m going to do everything I can to make sure he stays.”

It seems imperative that David De Gea stays at Manchester United if they are to push for the title, so let’s hope Ander Herrera’s power of persuasion is good enough to keep our No.1 between the sticks at Old Trafford.
