Manchester United are reportedly one of the leading contenders to sign Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer.
The Dutchman has two years left on his contract with the Serie A club but there has been speculation that he will only put pen to paper on an extension if his €120m (£102.4m) release clause is lowered.
It is believed that United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are all keeping tabs on de Ligt’s situation. However, supporters on Twitter are not that keen on the 22-year-old moving to Old Trafford:
For once I actually agree with you. This ship sailed a long time ago

With de Ligt being one of Erik ten Hag’s former players, it was probably inevitable that United would be linked with the centre-back at some point. It remains to be seen whether there is genuine interest, but there is no doubt that the Red Devils are looking to strengthen their options in the middle of defence.
Ajax’s Jurrien Timber appears to be the main target at the moment, and the 20-year-old would likely be a cheaper option than de Ligt, with it being claimed that Ajax may sell up for around £36m.
