Manchester United have reportedly been holding discussions with Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria in recent days.
Due to the Swiss international’s contract situation, he could be let go for only €6m (£5m) this month, but fans on Twitter are pretty split on whether signing the player would be a good idea:
Can’t be worse than what we got… I think

Is he/will he be world class, if not, what’s the point, just buying something better than what you have isn’t the way to go, buying the very best you can of the standards you aim for is what should happen.

Other teams, including Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Barcelona are also said to be interested in Zakaria.
However, there are doubts over whether the 25-year-old would be a worthwhile addition to the squad. United have a number of midfielders whose futures are up in the air (including Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek and Jesse Lingard) and, if a new manager does arrive at the end of the season, he may want other targets to strengthen the midfield.
Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni and West Ham’s Declan Rice have been suggested as possible alternatives but both of them would only be available in the summer.
