“I Can’t Remember Him Doing Anything” Scholes Unhappy With Key United Star’s Contribution Against Chelsea

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes was not happy with Bruno Fernandes’s performance in the 0-0 draw against Chelsea yesterday.

The Portuguese international has been accused of going missing in big matches for the Red Devils this season and Scholes thought that the 26-year-old could have contributed more in the attacking third:

“The big players have got to step up. Again Fernandes today – I can’t remember him doing anything. I don’t remember him creating a chance, I don’t remember him having a shot on goal.”

United’s tactics certainly didn’t help matters. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer persisted with playing two holding midfielders, which he has done consistently against ‘big six’ opponents this campaign.

There was also no focal point in attack for Fernandes to feed off, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Daniel James all favouring to play in the channels.

Even so, Scholes is right to expect more from Fernandes in terms of his passing and creativity. There is inevitably less space when you come up against a higher calibre of opposition and the midfielder needs to find ways of getting into the game.
