Zlatan Ibrahimovic seals LA Galaxy move

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has confirmed he is to leave Manchester United to join MLS side LA Galaxy.

The Swedish legend joined United in the summer of 2016, and finished as the club’s top scorer with 28 goals in all competitions, firing Jose Mourinho’s side to and EFL Cup and Europa League double.

Ibrahimovic however suffered cruciate ligament damage in April of last and has only featured seven times since.


The 36-year-old striker and the club have hence agreed to cut short his contract at Old Trafford, which expires at the end of the year, to allow him to move to the United States.

“It is time to move on after two fantastic seasons with Manchester United,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Great things also come to an end. Thank you to the club, the fans, the team, the coach, the staff and everybody who shared with me this part of my history.”

Ibrahimovic also took out an entire page in the LA Times to announce his imminent arrival at Galaxy, which simply read: “Dear Los Angeles, You’re Welcome.”

Announcing his departure, United said: “Everyone at the club would like to thank Zlatan for his contribution to the team since his arrival and wishes him well for the future.”

Ibrahimovic becomes the latest in a long line of ageing superstars to make the switch to the MLS.

A host of Europe’s former elite are currently plying their trade on U.S soil, including Andrea Pirlo, David Villa, Bastien Schweinsteiger and former Chelsea star Ashley Cole, whom he will join up with at LA Galaxy.
