Young Signs New Deal and United Learn UCL Fate

Ashley Young has signed a new contract with Manchester United until June 2018, with an option to extend for a further year.

The 30-year-old has been at United for 4 years since making his debut in August 2011. He has since made 115 appearances and scored 13 goals. Young impressed last season, enough so to merit a new deal.

Speaking on the clubs official website – ManUtd.com – the boss and Young had this to say:

Louis van Gaal said: “We are delighted that Ashley has signed a new contract. Ashley is a very multi-functional player. He took to the wing-back position with great confidence and flourished on the wing throughout last season. Ashley is always very professional and has a great presence in the dressing room.”

Ashley Young said: “I am delighted to have signed a new contract. The spirit and motivation amongst this team is very high and we are all determined to make this a season to remember.

“All I have ever wanted to do is play football and to be able to continue to do that at the biggest club in the world means everything to me and my family.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United have learned their fate in the Champions League Play Off. The Red Devils will face Belgium’s Club Brugge in the qualifier. The first legs of the play-off ties will take place on 18-19 August, with the second matches on 25-26 August.
