Young says United must “go again” after Tottenham defeat

Manchester United star Ashley Young has insisted his side must ‘dust themselves off and go again’ after Tuesday night’s disappointing defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs opened the scoring after a mere 11 seconds, with United’s defence unable to deal with a lofted long-ball straight from kick-off, leaving Christian Eriksen to slot home the Premier League’s second fastest goal ever.

And things went from bad to worse just before the half-hour mark when Phil Jones directed the ball into his own net – or more accurately top corner – after attempting to clear a driven Kieren Trippier cross.

The defeat leaves United 15 points behind leaders Manchester City – who produced yet another impressive win, a 3-0 victory over West Brom – however Young has backed his side to bounce straight back after the defeat against Maurcio Pochettino’s side.

Spurs took the lead after just 11 seconds on Tuesday night thanks to a Christian Eriksen strike.

“Obviously we’re disappointed to concede a goal so early on and to be 2-0 down at half-time is tough when you play a tough team like Tottenham,” the no.18 told MUTV.

“This was going to be a tough game. If we got the next goal, it would have been a different story. It wasn’t meant to be – there is a lot of disappointment in that dressing room but we have got another tough game this weekend.

“We’ve got to dust ourselves down, pick ourselves up and go again.”

United next host Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.
