Would Ronaldo Fit In At Old Trafford?

With the summer transfer window closing in, rumors of Ronaldo’s possible return to Old Trafford are re-emerging. The Portuguese star who has won it all with both Manchester United and Real Madrid might want to return to the first club where he truly felt at home. Even though Spain is closer to Portugal and even though he won the appreciation of the fans by being the best in the world, arguable he has never been as close to the supporters and to Real Madrid’s management as he was with the club that brought him his first Champions League trophy.

It is not the first time when rumors are suggesting that Ronaldo is telling his agent to find a way for him to move back to England. This time, things have changed. He is going in to his last 2 years of contract and he just turned 31. It is known that Real Madrid have few players over 30, regardless of their names. Add to that the fact that selling Ronaldo will help them comply to FIFA’s new budget rules and you get why a move to Old Trafford has a slim chance of happening.

According to TeamTalk, PSG are also interested in the Portuguese winger but the chances of seeing him move to France are close to none. Jorge Mendes mentioned back in the winter that Ronaldo will end his career at Madrid but that’s a little hard to believe after what happened to Raul and Casillas.

Regardless of how big Ronaldo has become in Spain, United could still say no and frankly they should. Ronaldo is not the kind of player who looks eager or ken to share his experience with youngsters like Martial or Rashford. He looks like the kind of player who keeps to himself and is only interested in his and the club’s success. He is not known as a mentor and he is too good to be considered strong competition. He would just push someone further back in the pecking order from the current lot (probably Lingard or Martial) without any good coming out of this. There’s also a matter of value. Would he be as good in the Premier League as he is in La Liga? The answer is probably not. Bringing Ronaldo back to the UK would likely not get the best of the years he has left of his career. It`s too late for him to readapt and too hard to fit right in. Playing every week against defenders like Kompany, Huth, Mangala, Vertonghen, Skrtel, and many others would put a massive dent in his goal-scoring stats.

There’s really no need to spend £80million which is what Real would probably ask, on a player who has had his day in Manchester. For that kind of money Manchester could sign 2-3 young players who would not only help the lot but also grow along with it.
