Manchester United will make a £40m bid for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane this summer, according to reports in the UK.
The French World Cup winning defender is closing in on the final year of his contract at the Bernabeu, leading to the likes of the Red Devils and Chelsea taking a keen interest in the 28-year-old’s situation.
While most fans on Twitter would like United to sign Varane, they fear the lowball offer could well be rejected by Real:
Woodward at it again ffs

They better get him

Considering he only has 1 year left in his contract, £40m is a relatively good offer

Get. Him.

Out of contract next summer

Literally no point even sending it with that amount

That's a fair amount for him TBH

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly the one pushing the club to sign the France international, so it seems a serious attempt will be made for the centre-half.
Reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid want a fee in the region of €50m (£43m) so United could well be close to an agreement if they do offer £40m for Varane. We shall see if a formal bid is made in the coming weeks.
