Will Manchester United Break The £150m Barrier With The Transfer Of Mahrez?

It`s been a busy summer for Manchester United who have made some of the most significant moves in the transfer market. What is more important is that they made transfers that make sense and that the money they spent was not wasted on unproven players.

The impact Mourinho’s moves had was visible right from the start. That is something you rarely see especially in the Premier League. Lukaku and Matic were exactly what fans wanted. Even Lindelof’s transfer, who was only used in the UEFA SuperCup, looks like a good investment and a very promising solution for the future.

United are currently using a 4-2-3-1 formation which is very efficient at least when it comes to the Premier League. The only two positions which may be considered as deficient are on the wing and the left side of the defense. With Mkhitaryan used as a number 10 and switching positions with Mata, some may argue that there’s no alternative needed for them.

Lingard, Rashford and Martial can perform on the wing but Rashford and Martial prefer to play centrally. With that in mind, Mourinho might push for one of the talented want-away players to be brought to Old Trafford. According to the Independent, there is a small chance to see Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez arrive before the deadline. The 26-year-old, who handed his transfer request earlier this summer, is still looking for a club despite entering the last 24 hours of the transfer window.

His contract extension which was registered on the 17th of August doesn’t seem to be much of a statement of his dedication towards the club as the Algerian is no longer interested in playing under Craig Shakespeare. The problem is that he, unlike United’s other transfers of the summer, is not a sure thing. He has had a massive drop in form during last season and failed to maintain the amazing level that got Leicester their title. There is no doubt he is talented, but can he cut it? And is he worth £50m. It is hard to tell but again, there are not that many players who would fit in at Old Trafford right now so why not go for it?
