Why United Should Do All It Takes To Sign Higuain In The Summer

Although any sensible football fan will agree Anthony Martial is a rather intriguing prospect, an attacker that will come good if he keeps his head. He might have not scored 30 goals or more for Manchester United this season, but he is certainly a good player and with time and humility on his part, he will go on to have a beautiful career in the game.

However, in the interim, United could do with another striker and many names have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer. Edinson Cavani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mauro Icardi, Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain among others have been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Of them all, the name that interests me the most if Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine who played under Jose Mourinho when both were at Real Madrid is said to have rejected the offer of a new contract from Napoli and will consider leaving the Italian club side this summer.

According to The Mirror Jose Mourinho is said to want Higuain with him at Old Trafford should he eventually take over from Louis Van Gaal. Due to the amount of money Napoli reportedly want for Higauin, many Manchester United fans are not totally comfortable with the idea of signing him. Napoli reportedly will only consider selling the Argentine if his full release clause is paid. The said release clause is put at €94million or £72 million.

This price tag is hefty in all sincerity. We however, need to accept the fact that the transfer market is now very inflated. If Manchester City could play £50 million for Raheem Sterling last summer, then Higuain should be worth at least double that amount.

The Argentine is by far one of the most underrated players in world football. A look at his incredible records over the course of the last three seasons will show you a player who is not fully appreciated by the football world.

In 2013/2014 season, Higuain played 49 games in all competition for both Napoli and Argentina and managed to score 29 goals and assisted 12 others. In 2014/2015 season, Higuain played 51 games in all competitions for both club and country and scored 30 goals creating 13 assists in the process. In the ongoing season, Higuain has played 39 times and scored 36 goals creating 4 assists along the line.

These statistics can’t be a fluke over the course of three years can they? Ever since he took the bold step of leaving Real Madrid, Higuain’s career has gone on to new heights.

In my opinion, Manchester United should do everything possible to ensure they sign Higuain this season. He has played at the top consistently for more than six years and has been a top performer. He is the type of player United needs while Anthony Martial and Rashford bide their time to develop.
