Why The Next Transfer Window Could Be Opened Earlier Than You Think

Premier League clubs will decide in a board meeting on Thursday when the next transfer window will open and close, according to Sky Sports.

FIFA regulations allow for the summer window to be open for up to 12 weeks, but with UEFA recommending a transfer deadline of October 5th this year, they wouldn’t get their maximum allowed time if the window was opened after the end of the season.

The final league fixtures are expected to take place on Sunday 26th July so to get the full 12 weeks allocation, clubs may decide to open the window earlier.

They could, however, opt to extend the window to beyond October 5th, which would be against UEFA’s advice, although there isn’t anything to stop them from doing it legally.

It is believed the EFL will fall in line with the Premier League’s decision and there are currently consultations going on, which include the FA, to determine the best course of action. It appears then that we will know by Friday if the transfer window will open earlier than expected.
