Who Is The Best England Striker Of All Time? Man Utd Legend Sees Goalscoring Record Smashed

A major record, set by a former Man Utd favourite, was smashed last night – Harry Kane broke Wayne Rooney’s record for the most England goals of all time.

As such, Kane is now being talked about among the likes of former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker and Rooney himself. But is he the best English striker of all time?

We don’t think so – in fact, we still believe that Wayne Rooney was a better overall player than Kane could ever hope to be.

Make no mistake – Harry Kane is a world-class striker. His wicked finishing ability and unparalleled hold-up play are complimented by incredible intelligence on the pitch – not only is the Spurs striker a great player, he’s also a master of the dark arts.

But few players in history have been able to bend the rules so effectively quite like Rooney did. A crafty footballer, Rooney always knew how to win free kicks and bait his opponents into fouling him.

Over the course of his illustrious run in the Premier League, Rooney scored a monumental 208 Premier League goals. Despite this, Kane isn’t far behind him, with 204 – sooner or later, the Spurs man will usurp this tally, too.

However, it should be noted that Everton academy product Rooney did not always play as a striker – towards the end of his playing years, he was gradually shifted into a deeper, midfield-based role.

Of course, Rooney won far more trophies than Kane ever will. Shockingly, the Spurs talisman has yet to win a major trophy – at 29 years old, time is not on his side, either.

Ultimately, this is a heavily debated topic and there is no absolute ‘correct’ answer. With that being said, if we were forced to pick, we would choose Wayne Rooney over Harry Kane any day. Do you agree?
