Manchester United sent the club’s future into turbulence this week when they decided it was finally time for a change at the manager position.
The United bosses sacked Erik Ten Hag on Monday after the club’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham United on Sunday following a late penalty from Jarrod Bowen.
Reports have emerged that Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has emerged as the favourite to take over from Ten Hag at United.
Sky Sports News have said that the higher-ups at Old Trafford have already begun talking to Amorim over the job at United and that the Sporting CP boss is open to the move.
Other names touted include Brentford manager Thomas Frank and former Barcelona boss Xavi, however Amorim is the front runner.
Ruben Amorim had a quick rise in management
The Sporting CP boss began his managerial career at Portuguese third-division side Casa Pia in 2018 where he lasted just four games before he was snapped up by Braga to manage their B Team.
Amorim took over the first-team’s manager job at Braga just three months after joining the B-team. He didn’t last long their either as Sporting CP had their eye on the Portuguese manager.
He was at Braga for just 13 games before moving to Lisbon and has since been at Sporting CP for four years. He has managed 227 matches for the Portuguese side where he has won 161, drawn 33 and lost 33. He has a win percentage of 70.9%.
Erik Ten Hag’s win percentage at Manchester United was 52% so Amorim has a hugely improved record on paper. He has two league titles with Sporting CP, three League Cups and one Super Cup over a four-year span which shows that he knows how to win trophies.
The biggest concern with the 39-year-old is his relative inexperience as a manager, especially considering that he has never managed outside of Portugal in his young career. However, his achievements so far, speak for themselves.
