Wenger opens up on Ozil’s move to United

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted he wants to keep Mesut Ozil at the Emirates until at least the end of the season, putting doubt about whether or not he will become a Manchester United player in January.

United are known to be in the market for Ozil, and have plans to sign him as a replacement for out-of-form Hendrick Mkhitaryan, who looks to be on his way out of Old Trafford after a flurry of games where he has not been included in Jose Mourinho’s squad.

But Wenger, who has previously admitted he may be inclined to sell Ozil in January to recoup some sort of fee, says there has been no approach made for the German international.

Ozil, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season and is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs in January. It is believed that he wants to stay in the Premier League though, with Manchester United thought to be his desired destination.

However, Wenger insists Arsenal are yet to receive an official approach from United and insists he wants to keep Ozil until at least the summer.

“No. We’ve never been approached by Manchester United,” said Wenger.

“[He will] Stay until the end of the season.

“They will all stay. It’s difficult for me to tell you because I will analyse every case differently.”
