Manchester United have joined Chelsea in enquiring about Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana, according to reports.
The Red Devils were credited with an interest in the Frenchman earlier in the summer but, after subsequently shelling out a sizeable sum on Lisandro Martinez, it is hardly an area of the pitch that needs to be reinforced.
Understandably, supporters on Twitter are rather perplexed by these links to Fofana, who could reportedly cost as much as £85m:
We have like 66 defenders already 😳😒

Considering United’s last experience of paying £80m+ on a centre-half from the Foxes, the reaction from some fans is not particularly surprising, especially as the club already have eight players who can all play in the middle of defence.
Manager Erik ten Hag is highly unlikely to have made Fofana a top priority anyway. Recruiting a right-back, a holding midfielder and a forward are believed to be the Manchester club’s three main objectives before the transfer closes at the end of this month.
