“We Did Not Accept…” Club President Reveals A Bid Has Been Rejected For 34M Rated United And Arsenal Target

Porto president Pinto da Costa has confirmed that he has turned down an offer for Vitinha from an unnamed club.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal have been tipped to trigger the Portuguese international’s €40m (£34m) release clause but Costa says no team has so far reached that figure:

“There was a concrete offer of considerable value for Vitinha. We did not accept and refer to the termination clause, which is the only way to take the player from us. If they come with a euro below Vitinha’s release clause, he doesn’t leave.”

Most of the talk about United’s interest in Vitinha is coming from Portugal at the moment. If a report from a respected source in the UK also backed up the claims, it would add weight to suggestions that Erik ten Hag’s side are seriously looking at the former Wolves player.

Although the Red Devils are focused on improving their midfield options this summer, Vitinha doesn’t really fit the profile that the Manchester club need.

Recruiting a holding midfielder is thought to be the main focus, hence the interest in Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, so a move for Vitinha would probably be something that United are considering in addition to the Dutchman.
