WATCH: Solskjaer Explains Reason United Decided To Change System Against Liverpool

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained why the Red Devils switched to three at the back for the game against Liverpool yesterday.

The Norwegian revealed that there were two reasons behind the change. 1) To make sure they had more players in attacking positions and 2) To deal with their opponent’s front three:

United’s change in system certainly worked. They restricted Jurgen Klopp’s men to very few clear cut opportunities in both halves while the home side were very dangerous on the counter-attack.

Andreas Pereira and Daniel James were, in particular, very impressive in the new formation, and it offered Marcus Rashford more support upfront with the 21-year-old getting the crucial goal.

Whether the system will be used in more games going forward, we shall have to wait and see. The performance was a big improvement compared to recent games and fans will be hoping it can kickstart United’s season.
