Van Persie Calls On United To Sign South American Ace Who “Will Get You 25 Goals A Season”

Ex-Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has called on his former club to snap up Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani on a free transfer in the summer.

The 33-year-old is out of contract in June and will be free to move clubs, and van Persie thinks he would be the ideal player to add extra firepower to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attack:

“He’s very fit, he’s a proven goalscorer, a goal machine, he has proven it at Napoli, PSG and Uruguay. With him, if he starts, he will get you 25 goals a season. I’ve watched him play, I’ve played against him, he is like a proper goalscorer. He lives by scoring goals so I’d go for him.”

United, along with Chelsea, did reportedly attempt to sign Cavani in the January transfer window but the Uruguayan international had his heart set on a move to Atletico Madrid.

A switch to the La Liga club never materialised and it remains to be seen whether he will look to push through a move to Spain at the end of the season.

As van Persie mentions, Cavani has been prolific goalscorer throughout his career, having scored 341 goals in 553 appearances, but his age may well put off United from making an approach with the Red Devils keen on putting together a younger squad.
