Van Gaal Praises Martial

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has praised new boy Anthony Martial after his dream debut goal in their 3-1 win over Liverpool.

The 19-year-old, who signed for £36m from Monaco, was named as a substitute during the game but entered the fray in the 65th minute. The Frenchman went on to score a goal he will never forget, and the manager is extremely pleased with the forward.

Van Gaal said: “He made a very good impression in the first three days, that’s why I selected him on the bench.”

“When you make a goal like Anthony you cannot wish for more.”

“A lot of players have made a debut and scored with me so it’s a good signal.”

“We scouted him and we wanted him because he’s the best in his age, but he needs time and three days is too short to judge his personality.”

Van Gaal dropped a big hint that Martial could make his full debut on Tuesday in their Champions League tie with PSV, with Wayne Rooney not expected to be fit.

“I don’t think he [Rooney] should play on Tuesday, we don’t want to take any risks with our captain but you never know. It’s Saturday and we still have Sunday and Monday.” said Van Gaal.
