United’s Move For 6M January Bargain Now Rated As ‘Very Unlikely’ As Rival Club Emerges As Favourite

Manchester United are “very unlikely” to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The Swiss international has also been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in recent months but Plettenberg believes the player could now move on a free transfer to Bayern Munich at the end of the season:

Zakaria is reportedly available for just €7m (£6m) this month, with his contract set to expire in June, but despite claims that manager Ralf Rangnick has been in contact with the midfielder’s agent, the Red Devils’ interest appears to have cooled somewhat.

Rangnick is also believed to be interested in RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara but the feeling is that United don’t want to give the interim boss any power over transfers as they want the next permanent manager to have the final say on new signings. It means there is unlikely to be any new additions to the squad in the January transfer window.
