United’s Limited Budget Is Pushing Them Towards 56M Rated Varane Alternative

Manchester United could well switch targets away from Raphael Varane towards Villarreal’s Pau Torres, according to reports in the Spanish press.

The local English media have claimed that the Red Devils have already had a £50m offer rejected for Varane, with Real Madrid demanding northwards of £80m for the 28-year-old.

It seems that may lead the Red Devils to turn their attention back to Torres. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side reportedly have set aside a limited amount to sign a centre-back this summer; most likely due to the expected outlay on Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.

This means Torres could be a more attractive option, considering United are aware that he has a €65m (£56m) release clause. He could, therefore, be signed for much less than Varane, unless Real have a change of heart about their asking price.

Torres is being targeted by a number of English clubs, with Manchester City and Chelsea both believed to be keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, so we shall see if United do try to beat their rivals to the Spanish international’s signature.
