It was a surprise when Chelsea allowed the Spaniard to leave for £37.1m in 2014 but he has been a moderate success for United, having scored 48 goals and provided 42 assists in 249 games.
Mata will be remembered mostly for his two goals at Anfield, but it must be said that at 31 years of age, his best days are probably behind him.
