Manchester United are considering a bid for Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic, according to Sky Sports.
The Red Devils were previously interested in the Serbian during the January transfer window but they reportedly had a €40m (£36m) turned down by the Viola.
Fiorentina are believed to be demanding €50m (£45m) for the 21-year-old, who could well be United’s main alternative to Leicester City’s Harry Maguire.
The England international is still believed to be the Manchester club’s primary target to strengthen the centre of defence but they have yet to follow up their opening £70m offer for the player.
Leicester are looking for £85m plus for the 26-year-old, and it appears they have already scared away United’s rivals Manchester City, who were also after the defender.
Pep Guardiola’s side are not willing to break the world record for a defender in order to secure Maguire’s services, meaning United look to have a clear run if they want the centre-back.
