United Want Midfield Legend

Manchester United are heavily rumoured to be interested in Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger. Louis van Gaal has previously managed the German when he was the boss at Bayen, and now it seems he is keen for the player to be added to the United squad.

The German World Cup winner needs no introduction, he is one of the finest midfielders around and will surely go down as one of the best ever. For as long as I remember, Schweinsteiger has been linked with United, now seems like the best chance they have to landing his signature.

Manchester United’s success in qualifying for the Champions League next season means that they need a broad squad to allow for the amount of games that will be played. There’s is also a real lack of experience in the squad, as Rooney and Carrick are now seemingly the only real ‘father figures’. That’s one way to put it anyway.

At 30, Schweinsteiger still has plenty of time left. Although it’s not an ideal age, it has to be said that a player of his quality will almost be timeless, as was Paul Scholes, and also Michael Carrick.

It is said that the German would be interested in a move to the Premier League, and with only a year left on his contract with Bayern, United could land Schweinsteiger for as little as £10 million.

In an interview with Kicker Magazine – Schweinsteiger said he is not ready to commit the rest of his top flight career to Bayern.

“I am in no hurry to renew,” he said. “It is not something that bothers me because I have a year left before it expires. The important thing is that my physical problems and injuries are resolved. The rest will follow.”

Obviously, Bayern would probably be reluctant to sell their club legend, but the move is likely given the players comments and his contract situation.

Michael Carrick turns 34 in a few months time, and has been rewarded for his brilliant performances with a one year extension on his contract. However, it is unlikely he would play a further part at United after next season. Bastian Schweinsteiger would be some replacement.
