United Want Brazilian WONDERKID

Manchester United have emerged as front runners in the chase to sign Fluminense wonderkid, Gerson.

The 17-year-old has caught the eye of various clubs around the world, and Manchester United are apparently stepping up their efforts in an attempt to lure the ‘next Neymar’ away from Brazil by sending out more scouts to view the player in Brazil.

It is widely reported that scouts from Old Trafford have already previously watched the 17-year-old in action for Brazil Under-20’s, and have said to be left impressed by the teen. Should United be interested in the player, they would face huge competition from the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona, who are also said to be interested.

Gerson is a relatively unknown figure in world football, having only burst onto the scenes in December 2014. However, even at the tender age of 17, he has managed to make 12 first-team appearances for Fluminense and scored an impressive 4 goals.

The Brazilian plays in an attacking midfield role and has been likened to both Paul Pogba and Neymar. Not bad, eh?

Fluminense are understood to be keen to hold on to the teenager, in an attempt to drive up his price in the coming years. Some reports state that the club will not be willing to part with Gerson until after the Rio 2016 Olympics.

However, the wonderkid won’t come cheap. Fluminense value their prized asset at around €30 million. Which considering the age of the player, and his lack of experience, may be a bit steep.

Manchester United haven’t exactly had the best luck with players from Brazil. Anderson, Kleberson, Fabio and Possebon are among the Brazilian players who have walked away from Old Trafford with little success.

One things for sure, Gerson looks as if he has bags of potential. It surely won’t be long until the teenager’s name is widely recognised in football.
