Manchester United target Youssouf Fofana will be sold by Monaco if they receive a bid in the region of €35m (£30m), according to Sports Digitale reporter Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.
The Turkish journalist says that there are at least five clubs pursuing the France international, including the Red Devils, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Galatasaray.
Fofana’s asking price is quite high, considering he is closing in on the final 12 months of his contract at Monaco.
However, the sheer number of teams pursuing the 25-year-old means the Ligue One side are hoping to receive a substantial fee.
Fofana is highly related by Fabregas
Speaking about the player earlier this month when United were first linked with him, former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas was full of praise:
“He’s a very dynamic and strong player, good on the ball, a modern type of player, aggressive, can jump, he’s box to box. I really like Fofana and I think he fits very well with the Premier League style.”
Fabregas actually played alongside Fofana at Monaco so he should know a thing or two about his former teammate.
Are United planning on signing a midfielder?
Erik ten Hag’s side are not expected to trigger their option to sign Sofyan Amrabat on a permanent basis from Fiorentina so the club will already be one player lighter than last year heading into pre-season.
Casemiro has been heavily linked with a move too, with respected sources (including Fabrizio Romano) claiming a transfer to Saudi Arabia is a genuine possibility. Christian Eriksen could also leave Old Trafford in search of more first-team football.
With that being the case there could soon be a place for a midfielder like Fofana in the first-team squad. Based on Fabregas’ remarks, he could be an excellent addition to the squad if United decide to firm up their interest.
