United Have ‘Expressed An Interest’ In Signing 22 Goal Dutch Star But Agent Is Pushing Him To Join Arsenal

Manchester United have “expressed an interest” in signing PSV Eindhoven forward Xavi Simons, according to Sports Zone.

The Dutchman has been in outstanding form, having scored 22 goals in all competitions this season, but it had been claimed that Arsenal were leading the race for the player’s signature. While the 20-year-old’s agent is believed to be encouraging him to move to the Gunners, both United and Manchester City are also reportedly involved in the transfer battle:

Whether this reporting from Sports Zone is accurate, we shall have to wait and see. It would not be a surprise, though, if United boss Erik ten Hag is interested, considering his preference for signing players from his homeland.

Simons only joined PSV from Paris Saint-Germain in July on a free transfer but the Ligue One club are said to have kept a buyback option on the Netherlands international. However, it is thought that he will only move teams if he is guaranteed first-team football.

Simons would give ten Hag plenty of options in attack

Although the Dutchman is ostensibly an attacking midfielder, he has actually been deployed as a striker and a winger on both flanks across the course of this campaign.

Simons’ flexibility makes him a very good asset, although you feel that United wouldn’t be able to offer the guarantees over game time that he would like.

The Red Devils are said to be after a young forward, and Simons would fit the profile but the club are also pursuing an established number nine who would get most of the minutes, and you can’t see the PSV star being happy as a bit-part-player.
