“Keep An Eye” – Romano Makes Exciting Claim About United’s Chances Of Signing £110M Rated Forward

Manchester United could enter the race for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen if his club drops his asking price, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Up until now, the Serie A side have stuck to their stance that the Nigerian international will only be allowed to leave if a team triggers his €130m (£110m) release clause, but Romano says they may decide to lower their demands later in the summer:

“In this moment of the market, keep an eye also in England, because Osimhen could be a big possibility. If Napoli changes the price of Victor Osimhen, there could be a possibility for other clubs to enter. For example, Manchester United are looking for a striker.”

Even if Napoli do reduce their valuation, though, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will push the boat out.

The club also need to strengthen their options in the centre of defence and in the middle of the park so it is difficult to see how they could afford Osimhen too.

Why hasn’t anyone signed Osimhen yet?

Many clubs are looking for a new forward, including the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, but they can’t splash the cash due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

United are in the same position as those teams, but there is no doubt that they would be tempted if Osimhen’s value drops low enough.

United may seek out cheaper alternatives

Erik ten Hag’s side will have to recruit a striker of some sort this summer. They cannot afford to go into next season with Rasmus Hojlund as their only recognised No.9.

Osimhen would be a fantastic addition but United may ultimately decide to recruit someone who can compete with Hojlund, rather than taking his place.

Lille’s Jonathan David, who is available for £21m and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee (who has a £34m release clause) may not be as exciting names but they could add the depth that United need up front.
