United Aiming To Snap Up World Cup Star For Just £19M As Ten Hag Targets Fourth Summer Signing

Manchester United are hoping to secure the signature of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat for only €22m (£19m), according to Tuttosport.

The Italian newspaper claims that Amrabat’s club would like €30m (£26m) but the Red Devils believe they can get the player for a lower amount if they include add-ons.

There have been various reports about bids being tabled by United for the Moroccan international but, so far, no official approach has been made.

That could all be about to change, though, once they have wrapped up the signature of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.

An attempt to sign Amrabat is expected

It was originally claimed that an offer for the midfielder would only be proposed if they managed to sell one or two players first.

With United locked in talks to offload Donny van de Beek to Real Sociedad and Fred attracting interest from Galatasaray, it appears that the Red Devils are confident that a space for Amrabat will open up in the first-team squad.

The 26-year-old would be seen as an upgrade on those two players, having starred for Morocco at the World Cup in Qatar last year.

United’s summer spending could hit £200m

Depending on what report you read, the Red Devils could be paying as much as €75m (£64m) upfront for Hojlund, in addition to the £99m they have already shelled out on Mason Mount and Andre Onana.

Even if they do negotiate down Amrabat’s price, it would mean that United will be spending at least £182m this summer, and that is before performance-related add-ons. If we include them, the cost of the four signings would rise to £206m.

Considering that before the summer began, it was reported that Erik ten Hag’s side only had £100m to £120m to spend, the club have seemingly managed to double their original budget. Some of that could, of course, be recouped in future sales.
