Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has “expressed an interest” in signing Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry, according to Fichajes.net.
The Spanish rumour mongers claim ten Hag is already planning his recruitment for next summer, and he has identified Gnabry as a priority target.
With the future of both Jadon Sancho and Antony looking uncertain due to off-field matters, the focus will be on signing a player who can strengthen the right-hand side of United’s attack.
Fichajes report that Gnabry is seen as the “ideal choice” for replacing them as he already has experience playing in the Premier League (with Arsenal), in addition to demonstrating his abilities consistently during his time with Bayern.
Gnabry’s record in Germany is impressive
Since moving to Munich from Werder Bremen in 2017, the winger has racked up 81 goals and provided 51 assists in 222 appearances, which means he averages a goal contribution every 1.68 games for the Bundesliga champions.
If you contrast that with Sancho’s (1 in 4.55) and Antony’s (1 in 4.36) numbers after joining United, Gnabry looks like a class above.
United will have to pay a hefty fee to sign Gnabry
The German international signed a new contract with Bayern at the start of last season, keeping him at the Allianz Arena until 2026.
It means that Gnabry will still have two years left on his current deal next summer, and it appears his valuation will remain high as a consequence. It could cost United as much as €60m (£51.8m) to prise him away from Germany.
Gnabry has expressed an interest in returning to England in the past, so he could be open to joining United if the Red Devils do decide to make a formal bid for the 28-year-old in a future transfer window.
