Manchester United will find it “impossible” to convince Real Madrid to sell Rodrygo this summer, according to Sport.

The Catalan publication have named the Red Devils, along with Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal, as being among the clubs who have “asked” about the Brazilian’s situation.

Rodrygo’s position in the starting lineup at Real is expected to come under serious threat when both Kylian Mbappe and Endrick arrive at the Bernabeu this summer.

That has led to United and others making enquiries about the 23-year-old ahead of the next transfer window.

However, Sport claim that Real deem Rodrygo “non-transferable” and even if they did receive a formal offer from an interested team, they wouldn’t even consider selling for less than his current transfer value which stands at €100m (£86m).

Do United need a player like Rodrygo?

This season, the Brazilian international has played the majority of his football as a centre-forward, with the rest of his game time coming on the right wing.

Those are both positions that the Red Devils could do with strengthening but there are question marks over whether Rodrygo would be a good fit for either role.

He has only scored 13 times in 41 matches this campaign. Those figures are not particularly impressive for a striker. His lack of consistency would also raise question marks over whether he would be much of an upgrade on Antony for the right flank.

Ratcliffe has ruled out making moves for marquee signings

Minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has recently spoken out about the club’s transfer policy ahead of the summer. From the sound of things, it doesn’t look like bids for players like Rodrygo will be on the agenda:

“The solution isn’t spending a lot of money on a couple of great players. They’ve done that if you look at the last ten years.”
