United Tipped To Pursue SECOND Barcelona Player As Shock Exchange Is ‘Proposed’

Manchester United have “proposed” a swap deal involving Jadon Sancho and Barcelona winger Raphinha, according to Sport.

The Catalan publication claim that it would be a straight player exchange, with no money involved, as it is deemed that Sancho and Raphinha are worth the same amount.

Sancho was signed from Borussia Dortmund for £73m in the summer of 2021, but the Red Devils know there is no chance of getting their money back on the winger after he was frozen out of the first team by manager Erik ten Hag.

The situation is slightly different with Raphinha. Barca beat Chelsea and Arsenal to secure the Brazilian’s services from Leeds last year, paying £55m (including add-ons).

After impressing in his first season at the Camp Nou, he has struggled to maintain form and fitness this campaign, although manager Xavi has started him in the La Liga champions’ last three matches.

United are keen to provide competition for Antony

With Marcus Rashford not suited to playing off the right flank, and Sancho’s future seemingly lying away from Old Trafford, strengthening that side of the pitch is a priority for ten Hag.

Antony has shown he can’t be completely relied upon so signing someone like Raphinha would provide an added threat on the wing.

Raphinha is not the only Barcelona player that United are interested in

Mundo Deportivo reported on Saturday that the Red Devils are pursuing Ronald Araujo. The newspaper goes as far as to say that the Red Devils would be willing to “double” the Uruguayan international’s wages.

United have reportedly prioritised a move for a centre-back when the transfer window reopens, so the links to Araujo do make sense in that regard.

However, there are two major obstacles that could stop the move from going ahead. Bayern Munich also want to buy the 24-year-old, while Barcelona are reluctant to let the player leave.
