Top Tier Journalist Claims United Are “Closely” Following 23 Goal French Ace But 2 PL Rivals Are Now Also Keen

Manchester United “continue to closely follow” Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani, according to RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins.

The trusted journalist claims that the Frenchman, who scored 23 goals in all competitions last season, remains a target for Erik ten Hag’s side but the number of rivals for his signature is increasing.

Tottenham are now weighing up a move for Muani if they lose Harry Kane this summer, while Chelsea are also “still interested” in the striker. Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are keen admirers of the player as well.

From United’s perspective, though, the main issue with pursuing the 24-year-old is his price tag. Reports in Germany have suggested Frankfurt may demand a fee between €80m (£69m) and €100m (£85m), which is beyond the club’s price range.

United are targeting a cheaper player

While it appears as though Muani has remained on the Manchester club’s radar, all the signs point towards Rasmus Hojlund being the Red Devils’ number-one striker target.

The vast majority of journalists have claimed that the Danish international will be United’s next priority once they have tied up a deal for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Hojlund will be cheaper than Muani, but his club Atalanta are not expected to let him leave without a fight, with it being reported that they want between €60m (£51m) and €70m (£60m) for the Danish international.

There are question marks over both Muani and Hojlund

While the two forwards are undoubtedly very talented, both are coming off the back of breakthrough seasons. Before scoring a host of goals for Frankfurt last campaign, Muani had been a rather average performer in France.

Hojlund, meanwhile, has yet to score more than nine league goals in a single season so far in his career. United would be taking a calculated gamble on either player.
