United Told They Can Seal 4th Summer Signing For Just £8.5M

Benfica have made Manchester United target Odysseas Vlachodimos available for €10m (£8.5m), according to O Jogo.

The Portuguese publication claim that the Greek international will be allowed to leave for a fee similar to the one that Benfica paid for their new no.1 Anatoliy Trubin.

Vlachodimos has reportedly fallen out with head coach Roger Schmidt and it’s felt that it is best for all parties if the 29-year-old leaves the Estadio da Luz.

That could prove beneficial for United, who are keen on recruiting a backup option for Andre Onana before the transfer window closes on Friday week.

What do United fans need to know about Vlachodimos?

The keeper was actually born in Germany and came through Stuttgart’s academy before making his senior debut in August 2015.

Panathinaikos, however, snapped up Vlachodimos just five months later and he became their first-choice keeper for the start of the 2016/17 season.

After a couple of years in Greece, he made the move to Benfica, and he has been the Portuguese side’s no.1 for the last five campaigns, before his reported falling out with Schmidt.

Trubin’s arrival has meant Vlachodimos did not feature in the 2-0 win over CF Estrela last weekend, despite having started the club’s first two matches this season.

Henderson will have to leave first

It is believed that a move for Vlachodimos is dependent on current no.2 Dean Henderson leaving Old Trafford on a permanent basis.

The England international was close to joining Nottingham Forest earlier this summer, only for the move to collapse but it is now believed that a switch to Crystal Palace is more likely.

The Eagles are seeking a replacement for Vicente Guaita who has refused to play after losing his starting place to Sam Johnstone. They have identified Henderson as a target and they are looking to agree a loan with an obligation to buy, which could satisfy United’s demands as long as the purchase price is high enough.
