‘Perfect Replacement For Varane’ ‘Let’s Make It Happen’ United Fans React As Sky Reporter Provides Transfer Update

Manchester United have reignited their interest in Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The journalist says manager Erik ten Hag is a “big fan” of the Netherlands international having previously worked with him at Ajax:

Most supporter on X would back the club’s move for de Ligt, with many believing he could be a good reinforcement for the centre of defence:

De Ligt is no longer first choice at Bayern

Some may be surprised to hear that the Dutchman has been made available for transfer but he only started 16 league games for Bayern last season.

That can be partly attributed to injury problems, but de Ligt also had to contend with competition from Dayot Upamecano, Kim Min-jae and Eric Dier.

With Hiroki Ito and (potentially) Jonathan Tah also expected to make the switch to the Allianz Arena, there won’t be much room for de Ligt if he stays.

United are considering several centre-back options

De Ligt is by no means the only central defender being pursued by the Red Devils. The Manchester club are also interested in Jean-Clair Todibo, Jarrad Branthwaite and Gleison Bremer.

Ten Hag’s influence could prove crucial, though, and de Ligt may end up becoming their top target.
