‘That’s A Nice Try’ ‘Bring My Boy Home’ Fans React To Reports That United Have Had £51M Bid Rejected

Manchester United have had a €60m (£51m) offer knocked back for Benfica midfielder Joao Neves, according to Record.

The Portuguese tabloid claims the proposal was well short of the player’s valuation, which currently stands at a mammoth €100m (£85m).

Supporters on X are excited about the prospect of signing Neves, although some doubt whether the Red Devils have the funds to match Benfica’s asking price:

Neves has been dubbed the next Fernandes

When the 19-year-old was first linked with a move late last year, comparisons were drawn between him and club captain Bruno Fernandes.

The Manchester United midfielder has publicly praised Neves, who he encouraged to join him at Old Trafford.

However, it has subsequently been revealed that Fernandes could leave Manchester this summer, so there is now a possibility that Neves is being eyed as his replacement.

United could have competition for the player

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Arsenal have also been scouting Neves, while other reports in Portugal have credited Liverpool with an interest too.

Competition from rival Premier League teams may complicate things for United but the key to negotiations will be finding a compromise with Benfica over the price. If Record are to be believed, there is currently a chasm between the two sides in terms of their valuation of the Portuguese international.
