Manchester United are still interested in signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking to the United Stand (via Twitter), the Italian reporter said that the Frenchman is a player that the Red Devils are keeping tabs on:

Fans on Twitter are delighted that the club are targeting Todibo, with some believing he would be an upgrade on Axel Disasi, who was also an option before he was snapped up by Chelsea:

Todibo won’t be available on the cheap

Reports in France last week claimed that Nice would want at least €40m (£34m) for Todibo so it’s anticipated that United would have to sell a player first before making an offer for the centre-half.

If they can get Harry Maguire off the club’s books, it would open up some space in the squad, but they have only received a derisory £20m bid from West Ham for the England international so far this summer, so his departure doesn’t look likely at this stage.

United will face competition from other Premier League teams

Even if Erik ten Hag’s side do free up the funds required to make an offer for Todibo before the transfer window closes, they may still need to see off rival clubs.

When United scouted the 23-year-old against Rennes back in May, it was believed that Liverpool and Newcastle also had representatives in attendance.
