Manchester United transfer target Jean-Clair Todibo says he has held talks with Nice about his future at the Ligue One club.
The Red Devils are known to be one of the teams keeping close tabs on the Frenchman and, speaking in an interview with The Telegraph, the defender did admit that, while he is reluctant to speak too much about a potential transfer, it is a topic that has been discussed:
“Honestly, I don’t want to talk about [my future] because of my respect for the fans here and the club also. But we had a little discussion, for sure.”
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Todibo remains on United’s list of summer targets, and he could be available for around £40m this summer.
Other Premier League clubs are also pursuing Todibo
Tottenham held discussions with Nice about signing the 24-year-old back in the January transfer window, but they were put off by his reported price tag. Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the player.
Romano has stated that there are rival English teams targeting Todibo, and it’s likely that Spurs and Chelsea are still in the mix.
United have multiple centre-back targets
In addition to Todibo, Erik ten Hag’s side are believed to be considering moves for the likes of Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, Ajax’s Jorrel Hato, Juventus’s Gleison Bremer and Benfica’s Antonio Silva.
Out of all of them, Todibo is likely to be the cheapest. Everton could demand as much as £80m for Branthwaite, while Palace are keen on getting around £55m to £66m for Guehi.
Bremer does have a release clause in his contract but it can only be triggered in 2025, while Silva’s buyout fee is said to be worth €100m (£85m), making them unrealistic purchases. Todibo, therefore, looks like the most realistic option.
