Manchester United discussed using Jadon Sancho in a possible “swap deal” with Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils were reportedly looking to loan the Spaniard (who cost Chelsea £62m) but Romano says a player swap was also something that was considered:
“The name of Jadon Sancho only came on the table when Man United and Chelsea discussed about Cucurella so there was the name of Sancho on the table, like a possible name to include in a swap deal with Cucurella… was never something asked by Chelsea and was never something concrete or close or advanced. Just a normal discussion club-to-club.”
Sancho has fallen out with manager Erik ten Hag, having not been included in the matchday squad for the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend.
Asked about the the England international’s absence, ten Hag claimed it was due to the player’s poor performances in training
Sancho has reacted furiously to ten Hag’s comments
The £73m Manchester United star was clearly not pleased with how the manager made his reasons for dropping him public.
In a strongly worded statement, Sancho denied that he was performing poorly in training and hinted that there were “other reasons” that have led to the current clash between him and the manager.
The fact that he was offered to Chelsea in a player exchange may have something to do with it.
United’s season is in danger of unravelling already
We may be only four matches into the new campaign but the Red Devils have already lost twice and this public falling out between player and manager certainly doesn’t help matters.
Sancho could well be relegated to training with the reserves if he can’t resolve his differences with ten Hag, and it’s threatening to overshadow the club’s entire season.
