United, Chelsea And Tottenham On Alert As £80M Star ‘Switches Agents’ In Bid To Secure Transfer

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has given the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham a “clear” signal that he wants to switch clubs, according to the Daily Mail.

The 27-year-old is suspended until January due to betting infringements but he has decided to sign up with the CAA Stellar sport management agency in recent days.

With Toney’s contract set to expire in 2025, a sale in January or at the end of the season is a very real possibility if the forward doesn’t agree to sign an extension.

The Mail claim that Brentford would still hold out for a fee in the region of £80m for the England international, which is a pretty sizeable amount, considering the fact that he wouldn’t have played competitively for the best part of eight months by the time his ban ends.

However, the demand for Toney’s services is not in doubt. There have even been some rumours that a bid could be made for the striker this month despite his suspension, but it is more likely that a move will take place in the New Year.

Do United need another striker?

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has been starting Marcus Rashford up front in the first couple of games of the season, with both Anthony Martial and new signing Rasmus Hojlund out injured.

There is a lack of depth in the centre-forward position and an attempt to sign Toney would make sense.

Raising £80m to sign Toney could be difficult

Even if United were sold to a new owner in time for the January transfer window, Financial Fairplay means the club may have to sell before they buy.

If they can get the likes of Martial and, potentially, Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire off the books then it could free up the funds required for Toney.

Manchester United face Nottingham Forest in their third Premier League fixture of the season this weekend. Watch a preview of the match here on Shots! TV.
