United Are ‘Pressing’ To Sign 15 Cap International But They Must Make ‘Super Offer’ Totalling £51M To Get Him

Manchester United are the club “pressing” to sign AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper claim that the Frenchman, who has been capped 15 times by his country, is a key player for the Rossoneri and the Serie A side will only sell if they receive a “super offer” in the region of €60m (£51m).

At that price, Milan would sit down and seriously “evaluate” the proposal, as it would be triple the amount they paid Real Madrid for Hernandez in 2019.

It is believed that United would have no issues agreeing personal terms with the 25-year-old. Even though he signed a new contract recently, keeping him at the San Siro until the summer of 2028, he is only earning €4m a year (approximately £66,000 a week).

Do United actually need a player like Hernandez?

The defender is a very talented player but, due to the club’s pretty limited transfer budget, it’s hard to see him being a priority for the summer transfer window.

Luke Shaw put pen to paper on a new four-year deal back in April, while Tyrell Malacia was only recruited last summer, so there is no real need for another left-back.

What are United’s priorities this summer?

A new number nine is top of manager Erik ten Hag’s wishlist. Although they have cooled their interest in Harry Kane, they are said to be stepping up plans to recruit Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund instead.

Reinforcements at centre-back are also expected, with the Red Devils keen on Napoli’s Kim Min-Jae, Monaco’s Axel Disasi and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.

There has also been speculation about bringing in a goalkeeper that would be a better fit for ten Hag’s style of play. The likes of Inter Milan’s Andre Onana, Brentford’s David Raya and Porto’s Diogo Costa have been mentioned, although signing a new shot-stopper is not thought to be top of the agenda currently.
