REPORT: United Are Interested In Signing £40M Rated Winger Who Scored 13 Times In The PL Last Season

Manchester United are one of three teams who would “like” to sign Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, according to the Daily Mail.

The English tabloid claims that Newcastle and West Ham are also looking to snap up the England international, who scored 13 goals in the Premier League for the Foxes last season.

Following Leicester’s relegation to the Championship, Barnes is expected to leave the King Power Stadium but it is believed that a £40m price tag has been slapped on the player.

The 25-year-old does have two years left on his contract and, combined with the number of clubs interested in the forward, it seems the Foxes are confident that someone will meet their valuation.

They have already offloaded James Maddison to Tottenham for the same figure this summer, so they are not in desperate need to sell players, but Barnes is thought to be keen on playing in the Premier League next campaign.

United are not the favourites to sign Barnes

The Mail report that Newcastle are the team that currently leads the race to secure the winger‘s services, having put in a lot of the “groundwork” already.

However, the Magpies are reluctant to meet Leicester’s asking price and they may have to sell Allan Saint-Maximin first to make the deal happen. It does leave the door open for Erik ten Hag’s side if they do want to step up their interest.

A Sancho replacement?

Barnes usually plays off the left flank, cutting in onto his stronger right foot, so you do wonder whether United are considering him as a potential option if they decide to offload Jadon Sancho.

The 23-year-old has struggled to replicate the form he showed at Borussia Dortmund during his two seasons at Old Trafford and there have been suggestions that the Red Devils would be open to selling him for the right price.
