Manchester United are plotting a “double” deal for Juventus defender Gleison Bremer and Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, according to Calciomercato.it.

The Italian website claim that the Red Devils could be prepared to pay nearly €100m for the two Brazilian players when the summer transfer window opens.

Bremer is believed to have a €58m (£50m) release clause in his contract, and United are thought to be more than happy to pay that fee.

Calciomercato.it report that Erik ten Hag’s side have been “intensifying contacts” in “recent days” as they look to seal the centre-back’s signature.

They are said to be aware of reports that other Premier League teams are keen on signing Bremer as well, with it being suggested that the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham are keeping tabs on the player.

Why are United interested in signing Bremer?

The Red Devils are looking at potential replacements for Raphael Varane, whose contract expires at the end of the season. The club do have an option to extend the Frenchman’s stay for an additional year but they won’t trigger it as the player is unwilling to take a pay cut.

With Varane’s departure looking almost inevitable, it has led to Bremer being targeted. At 27 years of age, he possesses a good deal of experience without costing a massive sum of money.

What is the situation with Gomes?

Calciomercato.it say that United’s attempts to recruit the Wolves midfielder have not progressed as far. Ten Hag’s team are hoping to secure the 23-year-old’s services for around €40m (£34m) but his club are currently demanding a higher fee.

Gomes is being looked at as an option if Casemiro leaves the club. The 32-year-old has struggled with injuries during his second year at Old Trafford and a transfer to Saudi Arabia is believed to be a real possibility.
