United ‘Plot’ £93M Double Transfer Raid But They May Face Competition From Chelsea And Spurs

Manchester United are keen on signing Juventus defender Gleison Bremer and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, according to I News.

The website claims that the Red Devils will “plot” a double swoop to strengthen their options at the back ahead of next season.

Bremer only signed a new contract with Juve back in December but it is believed that it included a €50m (£43m) buyout clause.

I News report that the existence of the low release fee has also attracted the attention of both Chelsea and Tottenham, who are on the lookout for an experienced centre-back too.

United are looking to snap up Branthwaite

The Red Devils’ interest in the Everton defender is well-documented but it is thought that the Toffees could demand as much as £75m for the player.

Erik ten Hag’s side are reportedly not prepared to pay that much for Branthwaite but they may be willing to go as high as £50m to secure his signature this summer.

Why are two centre-backs being pursued?

Raphael Varane is being tipped to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season. The Frenchman is reaching the final year of his contract and he is not expected to accept a pay cut which would help prolong his stay in Manchester. A replacement for the World Cup winner will, therefore, be needed.

There are also concerns about the futures of three other centre-halves. United will reportedly listen to offers for Harry Maguire, while Victor Lindelof’s contract expires in 2025.

Lisandro Martinez’s injury issues have also led the Red Devils to consider more reinforcements in the backline, making moves for both Bremer and Branthwaite more likely.

In order to splash out £93m on the pair, though, money will also have to be recouped so that the club can stay compliant with Financial Fair Play regulations.
