‘I’m Tired Of This Team’ ‘Please No’ United Fans Shocked As Club Plot Move For £40M Rated Striker

Manchester United hold an interest in Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to I News.

Newcastle have been in talks with the Toffees about signing the 27-year-old but they have been put off by his £40m asking price.

I News, however, claim that Erik ten Hag’s side and AC Milan are still weighing up bids for Calvert-Lewin. Considering the forward’s poor recent form and woeful injury record, supporters on X are very much against a move for the player:

United are keen to provide competition for Hojlund

With Anthony Martial set to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the month, ten Hag will have Rasmus Hojlund as his only genuine no.9 in his squad.

A new striker is, therefore, a top priority for the summer transfer window, but the club need to be careful that they don’t sign someone who could stunt the growth of Hojlund.

As an older, more experienced player, Calvert-Lewin could provide a decent option off the bench but there is no way United would pay £40m for him.

Are other forwards being targeted?

The club are known to be tracking Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee but, despite reports suggesting they are willing to pay the Dutchman’s £34m release clause, no formal offer has been tabled so far.

A cheaper alternative, that has been mentioned in recent days, is Lille’s Jonathan David. The Canadian is in the final year of his contract and he could cost as little as £21m. There is, though, expected to be competition for his signature from the likes of Chelsea, West Ham and Spurs.
