The agent of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes did meet with “top clubs last week”, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Writing in his Daily Briefing column, Romano said that the midfielder‘s future still depends on what happens with manager Erik ten Hag and INEOS but conversations with other teams have taken place:
“The reality is that Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho has met with some European top clubs last week. Contacts took place, but the player remains focused on Man United and his exit is not something decided at this point. It will also depend on Man United’s new project, what happens with the manager, what they will ‘present’ to Bruno in new meeting.”
“It’s a stand-by moment between Fernandes and Man United, waiting to make final decision with a new contract for the player also being a possibility in case he decides to stay.”
Which clubs are interested in signing Fernandes?
Romano does not name the teams that have spoken to the Portuguese international’s representatives but other reports have mentioned Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
You wouldn’t expect that Barca would have the funds to finance a bid for the United star, even if the player was open to a move to Spain. Bayern, on the other hand, may have the means.
United could still keep hold of their captain
Fernandes appears to be keeping his options open and it looks as if there is still a possibility of him signing a new contract, even with all the transfer speculation.
However, a lot may hinge on whether INEOS are prepared to give the 29-year-old another extension, considering his age and the length of time remaining on his current deal.
Fernandes still has two years to run on his current £240,000 a week contract, with an option for another twelve months.
