United And PL Rival ‘Particularly Interested’ In Signing Kim Min-Jae Alternative Who Is Available For £51M

Manchester United and Chelsea could be set to battle it out for Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Italian website reports that the two Premier League rivals are “particularly interested” in signing the Brazilian who could be sold for €60m (£51m) this summer.

Juve need to raise funds after failing to qualify for the Champions League and, even though Bremer is a key player for the Serie A side, they would consider letting him leave if a good enough offer is made.

The 26-year-old started 40 matches in all competitions last season and he was also handed his first senior cap by Brazil back in September.

An alternative to Kim Min-Jae?

With Bayern Munich closing in on a deal for Napoli’s Kim Min-Jae, it is very likely that Bremer is being considered by United as another option if they do lose out on the South Korean international.

Other names have also been mentioned, including Monaco’s Axel Disasi and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, so it’s not clear at this stage which is the Red Devils’ preferred target.

Bremer should be a good fit for the Premier League

The defender does possess the physicality that would suggest he would be able to cope in English football. He is 6ft 2 and won 61.2% of his aerial duels in Serie A last season.

However, it should be pointed out that Bremer is far less capable in possession than Kim, having averaged just 0.27 progressive carries per 90 minutes (to Kim’s 1.24) and averaging only 1.84 progressive passes (to Kim’s 4.99).

The Brazilian international is very much a no-nonsense centre-half and, while there is no reason to doubt that he would be a success in the Premier League, he may not be the right player for Erik ten Hag’s style of play. We shall see if United do step up their plans to sign the Juventus star in the coming weeks.
