“Could Become An Option” – Romano Reveals Arsenal May Hijack United’s Move To Sign 49 Cap International

Manchester United’s chances of signing Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard are diminishing after Harry Maguire turned down a move to West Ham, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist claims Inter Milan and even Arsenal could move ahead of the Red Devils in the race to sign the Frenchman, who has been capped 49 times by his country:

As Romano points out, it looks as if Inter are favourites for Pavard’s signature, with the Gunners still weighing up their options after losing Jurrien Timber to a serious knee injury.

What does Maguire’s situation have to do with Pavard?

The 27-year-old was being eyed as Maguire’s replacement so, if the England international stays at Old Trafford, United are not in a position to recruit another centre-back, especially if they don’t have any additional funds from the sale of their former captain.

Pavard, in contrast, has been pushing for a move away from Bayern all summer. He has less than a year left on his contract and he is keen on leaving the Bundesliga champions.

Why has Maguire decided to stay at United?

After being stripped of the captaincy and being relegated to bench duty, you would have thought that Maguire would be angling for a move away from Manchester.

With reports that his place in the England squad could also be placed in jeopardy by his lack of game time, it was assumed that he would seek a transfer. However, from the sound of things, he is prepared to fight to regain his position in the starting eleven.
